Why it is Better to Measure Bit Instead of Word Error Probabilities

چکیده
In this paper we compare two measures frequently used when assessing the service quality of a digital transmission system: the word error probability (WEP) and the bit error probability (BEP). These two measures are compared by their accuracy and the complexity to obtain them using a sample mean estimator. The results are suitable for simulated systems (by means of Monte Carlo simulations) as well as the application of error probabilities when measuring the QoS in existing systems. It is shown that a soft measurement of BEP and WEP (based on reliability values instead of error events) is more likely to be accurate. The soft measurement of the BEP exhibits the highest accuracy in conjunction with the lowest complexity.

Word posterior probabilities for large vocabulary continuous speech recognition
In this thesis, the use of word posterior probabilities for large vocabulary continuous speech recognition is investigated in a unified, statistical framework. The word posterior probabilities are directly derived from the sentence posterior probabilities which are an essential part of Bayes’ Decision Rule. Different approaches to the computation of these probabilities using N -best lists and w...
متن کاملA Sub-threshold 9T SRAM Cell with High Write and Read ability with Bit Interleaving Capability
This paper proposes a new sub-threshold low power 9T static random-access memory (SRAM) cell compatible with bit interleaving structure in which the effective sizing adjustment of access transistors in write mode is provided by isolating writing and reading paths. In the proposed cell, we consider a weak inverter to make better write mode operation. Moreover applying boosted word line feature ...

متن کاملDecoding Error - Correction Codes Utilizing Bit - Error Probability Estimates
The main purpose of this dissertation is to estimate the individual bit-error probabilities of binary symbols or codewords while they are being received. It turns out that the bit-error probabilities are a function of the received-bit amplitudes and the channel noise power, both of which are assumed to be unknown a-priori at the receiver. In this study coherent detection is implemented with a C...
متن کاملAn Estimation of Required Rotational Torque to Operate Horizontal Directional Drilling Using Rock Engineering Systems
Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is widely used in soil and rock engineering. In a variety of conditions, it is necessary to estimate the torque required for performing the reaming operation. Nevertheless, there is not presently a convenient method to accomplish this task. In this paper, to overcome this difficulty based on the basic concepts of rock engineering systems (RES), a model for ...
